Liverpool’s River of Light festival is back on this evening, Monday 26 October, with its illuminated artworks lit between 5pm and 9pm after a stormy start.
The free trail was due to open on Friday 23 October, but Storm Austen and then Storm Boelo led the council to call off the Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings for safety. Some installations needed repairs after overnight wind damage, and the planned Water Street closure and the evening market in the Cunard Building were stood down on those nights.
What to know
- When: every evening, 5pm to 9pm, until Sunday 1 November.
- Where: 13 artworks across the city centre, including the Pier Head, Royal Albert Dock and Liverpool ONE.
- Theme: Together.

- Getting there: temporary closures around Water Street support the event, and Merseyrail engineering works affect some services this half term. Check council travel updates before you drive.
From the record
Several artworks sit on the old route from the town to the river. Water Street is one of Liverpool’s seven original medieval streets, laid out after King John’s charter of 1207. Read the history of Water Street or find somewhere to eat near the Pier Head before the lights come on.
