Rigby's Buildings, Dale Street

Rigby's Buildings is a five-storey, seven-bay office and public house block on Dale Street. The façade carries the date 1726, but Historic England records that it was rebuilt around 1850, and the building was listed at Grade II on 14 March 1975. Its stucco front rises to a modillioned cornice and a balustraded parapet with urns, above carved lettering reading "Rigby's Buildings".

The building takes its name from Thomas Rigby (1815–86), a wine and spirit dealer and pub owner who came to Liverpool in 1830. He acquired the property, previously known as Atherton Buildings, around 1852 and added the decorative stucco façade in 1865. The ground floor has a later 19th-century front with large leaded windows and a continuous fascia.

Inside, CAMRA's heritage records note plaster ceiling decoration and cast-iron columns from the building's time as a wine and spirit merchant's, and an oak-panelled "Nelson Room" with a brick fireplace. A fireplace in the rear of the left-hand bar bears an inscription recording a 1922 renovation by Ashby Tarr Ltd, which also produced the heavy exterior timberwork and entrance doors. The pub shares an enclosed courtyard with its neighbour, the Lady of Mann.
