The most famous cellar in pop music, still a working live music venue with bands from 11am every day. The Beatles played here 292 times between 1961 and 1963; today’s club is a reconstruction on the original site, run by the same owners since 1991.

What was here before
The Cavern opened on 16 January 1957 as a jazz club in the cellar of a Mathew Street fruit warehouse that had been an air-raid shelter in the war. It closed on 28 May 1973 when British Rail bought the site; the cellar was filled with rubble, and a reconstruction opened in 1984.
