Half a century of pasta on Stanley Street

Casa Italia opened on Stanley Street in 1976, which makes it one of the longest-established Italian restaurants in Liverpool city centre. It describes itself as a pizzeria and pastificio, and the formula has barely changed: classic pasta, pizza made from dough prepared in-house each morning, and a busy, convivial dining room.

Stanley Street runs through the Cavern Quarter, a few minutes from Mathew Street. Across the road stands Tommy Steele's statue of Eleanor Rigby, unveiled in 1982, and on busy evenings the queue for Casa Italia stretches along the pavement beside it.

For many Liverpool families the restaurant is a tradition passed down the generations: birthdays, first dates and family meals, at the same tables, for nearly fifty years.
