The building

Cook Street

Piccolino occupies the ground floor of 14 Cook Street, a short street linking Castle Street and North John Street in the city's old commercial district.

Its immediate neighbour, 16 Cook Street, was designed by Peter Ellis and built in 1866. It is listed Grade II* (list entry 1068298) and is noted for its floor-to-ceiling glazing, described as the world's second glass curtain-walled building. At the North John Street end, Nos. 18–22 North John Street and 18 Cook Street form a stuccoed office building of the 1840s, also listed.
