Italian dining on a 17th-century merchants' street
Old Hall Street takes its name from an old hall that once stood nearby. By the end of the 17th century it had become a fashionable street for Liverpool's merchants, whose houses stretched up towards St Paul's Square; in 1906 the Cotton Exchange opened here, and the street remains the heart of the city's business district.
Trattoria 51 trades from a Victorian building on the corner of Old Hall Street, with pillars either side of the door, a stone façade and soaring ceilings inside. It took over the former Via Veneto restaurant site, and its original sister restaurant is on Southport's Promenade.
