Bold Street, a former ropewalk
Bold Street was originally a ropewalk, a long straight track more than 300 metres in length where rope was made for sailing ships. It was laid out for houses around 1780 and named after Jonas Bold, a sugar trader, banker and slave trader who became Mayor of Liverpool in 1802.
Several buildings on the street are listed, including the former Liverpool Union Bank branch at Nos 43–47 (1861, by George Enoch Grayson) and the Greek Revival shops at Nos 75–79, which date from the 1830s. No. 69 itself does not appear on the statutory list.
Mowgli opened its first restaurant here in October 2014.
