From College Lane to Hanover Street
Peter and Elaine Kinsella opened Lunya in March 2010 as a 180-cover restaurant on College Lane, having trialled the idea at five food festivals. In October 2017 it moved two doors to the corner of College Lane and Hanover Street, taking the former Busaba Thai unit, which added a larger deli and bar plus a first-floor warehouse for its Spanish import business.
The site lies within Liverpool ONE, the 42-acre redevelopment by Grosvenor that opened in two phases in May and October 2008, during Liverpool's year as European Capital of Culture. In October 2024 the Kinsellas transferred the business to an Employee Owned Trust.
