Bold Street: from ropewalk to restaurant row
Bold Street began as a ropewalk, a long, narrow site where rope was made for sailing ships; its length of more than 300 metres reflects that original use.
The street was laid out for residences around 1780 and named after Jonas Bold, a sugar trader, banker and slave trader who became Mayor of Liverpool in 1802.
The lower end of the street, where KO Grill stands, lies close to the Lyceum and an entrance to Liverpool Central station. Bold Street is now largely pedestrianised and known for its independent cafés, restaurants and shops.
