The building

Bold Street and the Ropewalks

Bold Street was named after Jonas Bold, a sugar trader, banker and slave trader who became Mayor of Liverpool in 1802. The street was laid out for residences around 1780 on land associated with rope-making, the trade that gives the surrounding Ropewalks district its name: long, parallel streets allowed rope for sailing ships to be laid out during manufacture.

Bold Street later became one of Liverpool's principal shopping streets and today forms part of the Ropewalks, a district designated for creative businesses, restaurants, bars and cultural venues.
