A bank of 1839 on one of Liverpool's seven original streets
Dale Street was one of the seven original streets of the medieval borough founded by King John in 1207. Once very narrow, it was widened in 1786 and again from 1820, when Liverpool Corporation's works were directed by the architect John Foster. In the coaching era the street had major inns such as the George, the Golden Lion and the Angel.
Moose occupies part of 6–10 Dale Street, an office building designed by Samuel Rowland in 1839 for the Royal Bank. It is built of stone and has three storeys and nine bays. A giant Corinthian portico spans the central five bays, and there are royal arms on the balustraded parapet. Lettering from the 1880s for the Queen Insurance company remains at one entrance, and there are side entrances on Sweeting Street and Queen Avenue. The building was listed at Grade II on 15 May 1974.
