Seel Street and the Ropewalks

Seel Street lies in the Ropewalks, a district named after the rope-making industry that once occupied the area. Rope makers needed long, straight runs to lay out rope, which gave the district its pattern of long, parallel streets with few cross-connections.

Today the city's Local Plan designates the Ropewalks for creative and digital businesses, entertainment, nightlife, homes, restaurants and small-scale shops. Seel Street is one of its main nightlife streets.
